District Convention

Sheraton Westport Plaza Hotel, Maryland Heights, MO.
February 28th thru March 2nd

The annual convention was a blast as usual. Our theme this year was a two fold one. The idea for Friday night was for the men to be car salesmen for "Lyin Autos" and the ladies to be "Maggie Kay" sales reps. In case you didn't know DG Rick is an auto broker and Lion Maggie is a Mary Kay sales rep. Now you can understand why we choose that theme. Lions Paula and Susan decided to be both and had very unique costumes were one side of them was a car salesman and the other side was a Maggie Kay rep. Lion Charlie walked around with a very unique sign that Lion Doug made for him with his car inventory and a short story about each car on it that you just had to see in person to really appreciate. I'll try to get some better pictures of it when I get a chance. I had just purchased a new digital camera and not all of my pictures turned out so I need to get some pictures from others to fill in for mine that didn't take. Lion Tim found an old leisure suit and glued some cars to the inside and went around selling them to raise money for the Child Id program. With the help of a few others, Lion Tim raised $42 which covered the cost of the cars and left some money for the program. There was plenty to eat, we served up hotdog's and assorted chips. Thanks to a generous donation of 10 cases of beer from Lion Tim's dad, there was plenty to drink too. We also had a keg of beer given to us to watch from an other club and it seemed to follow us around all night.

Saturday, some of the members had meeting to attend and others went to the Mardi Gras parade or stayed home and recovered from a hang over. Saturday night about 50% of the club showed up for the convention dinner. The food was good and the speakers were great. The Ladue Strolling Violinist played while dinner was served just like in years past. What a treat they are to have every year. The dinner ended with a Candlelight Ceremony arranged by DG Rick. Some of the members and friends stayed around and tried to finish of he keg. Good thing the rooms are cheap so we didn't have to go far.

All in all I think everyone had a great time. You can see pictures by clicking on our photo album button at the top of the page or click here to go straight to the District Conventions photo album.
